Focus and Scope

The "Journal of Global South Development Studies" (JGSDS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarship and understanding of development issues within the Global South. The journal provides a platform for rigorous research, critical analysis, and policy discussions that address the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing countries and regions traditionally marginalized in the global development discourse.

JGSDS welcomes submissions across a broad spectrum of topics relevant to development in the Global South, including but not limited to:

  1. Socio-economic development: Exploring pathways for inclusive growth, poverty alleviation, economic diversification, and sustainable livelihoods in diverse contexts within the Global South.

  2. Environmental sustainability: Investigating the complex interplay between environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural resource management, and sustainable development goals in the Global South.

  3. Health and well-being: Examining health systems, disease burden, access to healthcare services, maternal and child health, nutrition, and other health-related challenges and interventions in Global South countries.

  4. Education and human capital development: Analyzing policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education, enhancing skills development, promoting lifelong learning, and fostering human capital formation in Global South contexts.

  5. Social inclusion and equity: Addressing issues of social justice, equality, diversity, and empowerment across various dimensions, including gender, ethnicity, race, religion, disability, and other marginalized identities in Global South societies.

  6. Governance and institutions: Investigating governance structures, democratic processes, rule of law, accountability mechanisms, corruption, decentralization, and state-society relations in Global South countries.

  7. Urbanization and rural development: Exploring the dynamics of urbanization, rural-urban migration, urban poverty, informal settlements, urban planning, and rural development strategies in Global South contexts.

  8. Technology and innovation: Assessing the role of technology, innovation, digitalization, and knowledge transfer in driving economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability in the Global South.

  9. Cultural heritage and identity: Examining the preservation of cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge systems, cultural diversity, linguistic diversity, and the intersection of culture with development processes in the Global South.
